E128: Chiseled by Life — The Purpose of Every Moment

Michael Singer:  Jai guru dev, jai masters. Sometimes people ask very philosophical, scar deep questions about life. What’s the meaning of life? Why is it here? What’s our purpose? What am I supposed to be doing? It gets very interesting. People write lots and lots and lots of books, sing songs about it too, and the truth is it is so obvious.

It doesn’t take a genius. It doesn’t take all kinds of contemplation and thoughts to understand and comprehend the answer to all those questions. What is the meaning of life? Why is it here? What’s my purpose? All that stuff. What you’re going to find out, and every one of you already found it out, but you don’t pay attention, is that life is a stimulus.

That causes you to grow. If you got everything the way you wanted, you might as well die. There’s no meaning to your life. You would just sit there. Okay, I got it. But it doesn’t work like that ever for anybody ever in the history of the universe. What do you mean? We’ll discuss it deeper as we go on, but there are things inside of you, not life inside of you that are causing trouble.

Trouble for you? Yes. Trouble for everybody else? Yes. They’re just troublemakers. Okay, so let’s discuss that and what’s being said here is. The purpose of life, why it exists, why this planet is here spinning in the middle of nowheres, and the purpose of your life is the same. To get rid of that stuff, period.

This entire purpose of life, it has a purpose, and your life has a purpose. It’s just not what you think. It’s, and that’s a major problem. The purpose of life is to first, see, I’m a mess. I don’t care who you think you are and how spiritual you think you are, you’re a mess. You have problems, you have fears, you have desires, you have anxieties.

You have tensions. Yes or no? Did it leave anybody out? That is what it means to be a human being. The problem is you’re not a human being and the difference between who you are. Really, and a human being is what life is about. It’s about that transition. It’s about that transmutation, it’s about that cleansing.

It’s about that change that you go through, which tears off the problem area and what it leaves is pure light. Let’s start here. Who are you? You are the greatest being that ever walked the face of the earth. In general, no specifically every single one of you of the greatest being that ever walked the face of the earth.

Christ blushes when he looks at you. Buddha blushes when he looks at you. And what’s neat is they all said that Christ said, as I sit by the throne of my father, that’s his state of consciousness, as I sit by the throne of my father. So you shall sit by my throne. And these things that you do, you should do these and even greater things.

All the great masters, all the great teachers taught the same thing. You are the highest being that ever walked the face of the earth. You are God descended. You are one. You are one with the universe. You are the reason for the existence of life. You’re God’s glory. That’s what you are, every single one of you.

It does not matter what you ever did. It doesn’t matter what you will ever do. There’s no way you will ever get rid of who you are. Just as the sun is always shining 4.5 billion years, that little thing sitting out there shining, it doesn’t look that way. When it’s raining, the sun is still out there shining.

I guarantee you guess what? There is no day. There is no night. The sun’s just sitting there shining. You say, what’s night when the sun’s not shining? Yes, it is. So. It is always shiny. That’s you always shiny, always. There’s nothing you will ever do that’ll ever taint that in any way, shape or form. But you do have the ability, your consciousness can look away, can look down, and if it looks down, it doesn’t see what’s going on there.

What does it see? It sees what’s down and so let’s talk about that. First of all, do you look down and don’t answer me ’cause you don’t know anything yet. And I’m gonna tell you a secret, right? I always use that example. The fish doesn’t know it’s in the water. It’s never been out. That’s his entire environment.

You are always looking down or rear exceptions, you’re always looking down. But if you’re always looking down, you don’t know you’re looking down. ’cause there’s no comparison. There’s no frame of reference. And what do you mean you’re looking down? I’ll prove it to you. Do you have thoughts? Do you have thoughts?

I don’t care if they’re positive or negative. They’re thoughts. You have thoughts? Do you have emotions? Have you noticed that there’s fear and anxiety and love and different things? Yes. Do they emanate from your heart? How do you know you have thoughts? That’s the only question that really matter. How do, you said you have thoughts.

How do you know? I don’t believe you prove it. You can’t. How do you know you have thoughts? The answer’s very simple. At some point you yell at me, ’cause I mean here. And I see them, they talk to me, I hear them. How do you know you worry because it says, oh my God, what will I do if this happen? People are after me.

Oh my God. What’s going? How do you know that’s going on? I’m conscious. I’m a conscious being that’s aware of what’s going on in here. Am I stupid? I’m aware of what’s going on in here. I see that that’s what’s going on in here. Don’t, don’t argue with me. I’m the one who’s in here. Who is the one who sees that?

Where are your thoughts? ’cause I’m telling you right now, they ain’t up. You have to look down to see your thoughts, and I hope you know that meditation will give that to you. Mindfulness will give it, lots of things will give it to you, and in the end, I’m gonna show you that life will give it to you.

That’s the purpose of it. But you will at some point, absolutely every moment of your life realize to see your thoughts. You must look down why they are down below the seat of your consciousness. When Christ said, as I sit by the throne of my father, that’s a seed of consciousness, a very high one. Okay, well, in fact, the highest, and you must look down from there to see you.

To see your thoughts, your emotions, your likes, your dislikes, your preferences, your hopes, your dreams, your fears. They’re there, aren’t they? How do you know? Because I’m looking at them. And where do you need to look to look? I need to look down. You feel it? I talk about Shakti and energy. Every one of you feel energy, whether you’re into yoga or this or that.

You all feel energy. You say things like, I’m down today. I’m up today. Those are not innocent words. You feel uplifted. What does? Your consciousness is not staring at as much garbage. Or the garbage smells nicer. Okay, but it’s still consciousness staring at it. And you can feel uplifted, can’t you? You can feel depressed.

Let’s talk about depression. Alright? I get in big trouble with traditional psychology when I make the following statement. No one is depressed. They’re staring at a depressed psyche. That’s all you need to do to go from completely elated to totally depressed. Just stare at a mindset and emotion set that’s low energy and down, and you’re gonna say, I’m depressed.

Well, what if you don’t stare at them? You won’t have a problem, but you don’t know how not to stare at them. ’cause they draw you down. They pull your consciousness down into them. What about your heart? Can your heart hurt? Can it get hollow? Can it feel empty? How do you know and why are you staring at that?

’cause I don’t know how not to. That’s an honest situation. Why would you stare at the ugliest, saddest thing it possibly could be. Just stare up, look up. The sun’s still there. It never went away for anybody, but you can’t because it pulls you down. I’m down. I love that word. I’m down today. I just feel down.

I feel depressed. I have no energy. I feel low. Who does me? Is it the same you that says, oh, today I feel wonderful? Yes sir. I’m depressed. Who’s this? I? The consciousness, the awareness of being that is there all the time. And sunny, I shouldn’t have to talk about this, but you know what I do. Do you have dreams?

Have anyone of you ever had a dream. How do you know? How do you know you have dreams? If I kept pushing you, you’d get so mad at me, you’d yell at me and eventually you’d say, ’cause I’m in here and I saw them. You’re in there. You’re in there having experiences. It’s the same you who had the dream. As who woke up and said, oh my God, I had this amazing dream.

Notice you used the word I. In both cases I had this amazing dream. I was flying and I got married and this happened, and I had two children, and it was wonderful and Right. Okay. I, I, I, I, I. And you wake up and you said, I had this amazing, is that the same eye, is it the same awareness of being. That saw the dream and lived in it as who woke up and is now talking about it.

You are in there. You are conscious and you’re way back there. That’s what you don’t know. Someday you will, you are way back there. I’m sitting here looking at that picture on the wall. Did I have to get up and walk over to it? Hi. I’m sitting here in this chair. How could I be over there with, because consciousness awareness can project itself.

That’s what you do. Alright, so consciousness can be sitting here, but it can be aware of things. It’s like the sun is still in the sky, but it radiates down to the earth. It’s a perfect example. Why is it hot? Oh, the sun is, so, the sun’s waiting 93 million miles away. Whatcha talking about? It didn’t change.

It didn’t do anything. It radiates. Its being, that’s the right word, right? It’s radiant being and those rays of light, which are really The sun. Is all the sun. Is the sun, okay? We, our solar system, what’s our solar system? What are the edge of our solar system? The point at which those rays don’t touch beyond that Voyager one, Voyager two made it, okay, you’re outside the effect of the sun.

Otherwise, the entire thing, all the planets, the entire area. Are part of the radiance of this sun. The sun didn’t have to go anywhere. It didn’t travel off to the edge. It just sat there and radiated. That’s who you are. You are the sun, the center, the core radiating your consciousness. Where Down consciousness awareness of being, just like I look at the picture, but stay in the seat radiates from your seat of consciousness.

You know all yogis people understand your seat of consciousness. What’s that called? The self, the ottman. The witness. Krishna Murray. In the old days, I love him, called it the seat of objective observation. What does that mean? I’m only observing. I’m not judging, I’m not thinking about what I’m observing.

I’m just observing that there are thoughts. That’s witness consciousness. But you’re witnessing back from where you’re seated and where you’re seated is a very, very high place, but your consciousness is being distracted. What does that mean? Consciousness can get distracted. Is being distracted by your thoughts.

Don’t tell me this thought’s bothering me. Every thought is bothering you. Every single, if I’m looking at that picture. I’m looking at that picture. In fact, I’m staring at that picture. I’m fixated. I like that word. I am fixated on that picture. What am I missing? Everything else. Everything else. So you become fixated on the picture.

You miss everything else. You become fixated on your thoughts. You miss everything else. The trouble is you don’t know there’s anything else. Well, if I’m fixing on the picture, I don’t know there’s anything else. Either my consciousness is completely distracted. Focused on that one object. Then there are no other objects.

Probably there are, but I don’t know. Okay. It is the same thing with your center of consciousness. It’s way back there. In fact, it’s. We’ll, we’ll go there in the end. It’s way beyond, way back there. Okay. And it is from that seat, just like I’m in this seat. It is from that seat right now that you are looking at your thoughts.

How do I know? Because you wouldn’t know that were any, if your consciousness was not focused on them. You are fixated on your thoughts, so your consciousness is being pulled down. Your consciousness is being pulled down to what is distracted by, and I assure you your C is distracted by your thoughts.

That’s why there’s that voice in your head. Talkie, talkie, talkie, talkie, talkie, talkie, talky talk. I don’t care if it talks positive, it talks negative. I mean, I do ’cause I care about you. And the problem is when it talks negative, you really get pulled down into negative. And when it talks positive, you get lifted up into positive.

There’s no difference. The consciousness is the same. It’s the same consciousness. The picture’s the same. I look at that picture, okay, I’m fixing on that one and that one, no difference. This is what’s going on. You are literally, God descended God consciousness. In fact, I’m gonna make it seem sad to you.

Right? God, consciousness can experience the entire universe. That’s why it’s got made. It’s just beautiful. Right? What are you showing God right now? What’s the little gift you’re giving back to God? ’cause you’re so devoted here. Here’s my junk here. Stare at this. Hey, stare at this worry. Stare at this fear.

Stare at this anxiety stare at this sense of loss. Stare this depression, stare at this momentary happiness, which I’m afraid is gonna go away any day. Oh my God, what do I need to go Stare at that. That’s what you have consciousness staring at, and you don’t know how to get it off. Do you talk about it?

We’re having a nice discussion. ’cause it’s true like, but some people teach and they should, they should teach it, right? The power of positive thinking. There’s tremendous power in positive thinking. You get to feel better ’cause you’re not staring at the garbage. What’s it got to do with God? I don’t know if I’m staring at that picture instead of that one and it’s still me at the chair.

It’s just you are the consciousness staring at your thoughts, your emotions staring. Isn’t it amazing? You look out through your eyes. I have this fixation problem that I like to talk about. This you all, I don’t know if you ever get it. You stare out through your eyes and you see things. Okay. You see things, there they are.

That’s out there. How much do you see at any given moment compared to everything going on in the state of Florida? How much do you see right now? How about everything going on on planet Earth? How about everything going on everywhere? You don’t see anything, but you think that what you see is so important.

They just happen to be what you’re staring at. Your consciousness happens to be fixated and drawn down to your thoughts and your, your emotions. Therefore, they became very narrow and therefore, your body, you limit your consciousness and your awareness of being to what comes in through your senses, which is nothing.

And then you build an entire concept of yourself based on what you experienced. Now we’re gonna start to talk about life. That’s why they call it the self-concept. Okay. I, I’m, I didn’t. Did it in order. I don’t know. But you’re back. There you are. God descendant. That’s who you are. Pure consciousness, pure enlightenment.

You’re the greatest being ever. Walk the face of the earth. You are where Adam and Eve were before they fell from the garden symbolically. What are they saying? They were ecstasy. They were just experiencing creation. They were God experiencing God’s creation. It just, it’s everything. Everything.

Everything’s being seen at once. God’s not limited to looking through the eyes. If I go out on the field and have a telescope. And I get totally caught in staring at the moon or something and I get so caught in it that I forget. I’m looking through a telescope, I just, oh my God, look at the craters and look at this and look at that.

I have just limited my universe, my even this person’s existence to this little aperture quarter inch time or quarter inch, right? ’cause my eyes are looking through that. I now am for hours or days. Maybe I get lost there. I can fixated. You could get lost out there, couldn’t you? That’s what’s happening.

When you look through your eyes, they’re a limited lens that only sees a certain distance, and you now define yourself by what’s happening on the moon. No, just stop looking through telescope. Oh my God. Look, there’s a whole field. There’s our family. Where did they go? They go anywhere. You stop looking at them.

So you are now, I got you. You are the divine universal consciousness. Is that what you are staring at your thoughts, your emotions, and out through your limited senses, and they’re very limited. Okay. Now what? Now what happens? You start identifying with what you’re looking at. That’s one of the greatest words in spirituality that we never talk about.

This thing called identification consciousness is awareness. But it has the ability to identify with what it’s aware of. I’m gonna repeat that to you. That’s as deep as it comes. Consciousness is awareness of being. It’s awareness. That’s what it is. I, I can’t talk any deeper. If it wasn’t there, we wouldn’t have a discussion.

It’s not about what you’re aware of. It’s the fact that there’s this stuff in the universe called God, by the way. What has got eternal conscious awareness? Just awareness of being. That’s what it is. A sinkhole awareness, which you are. It is the greatest thing in the universe. How do you know? Take it away and there’s nothing.

Okay, so basically awareness gets drawn down and then identifies with, that’s what I said, that word. What does it mean? I am Sally. Oh, now there’s a lie. What if your parents called you, George? Then I am George. No, you’re not a name. You’re not a label. I am this body. Well, when you dream, you’re not the body.

When you die, you’re gonna find out you’re not the body. Sorry, I didn’t mean to tell you that, but you’re gonna find out. Okay? Consciousness doesn’t die. It’s just as not conscious of what it was conscious of. If I’m fixated on the picture and somebody calls me and hits me in the head and, oh, oh my God, I got lost, am I dead?

Am I don’t exist? No. My consciousness stopped being fixated. What was fixated on, and now it’s able to be broader with the same thing with looking for that aperture in the telescope. If I stop looking at the moon. There’s a whole earth here. The whole thing for me to experience, alright, if I stop staring through my senses, you’re gonna find out you’re still there.

So basically what happens when the word identification, it comes down your consciousness. That’s the fall from the garden. The tree of self-knowledge. Your consciousness starts identifying with what it’s looking at. Do you understand? You identify what you’re looking at looking at inside and outside this whole package, one of the books, they call it a three ring circus.

Your mind, your thoughts, your emotions, and what comes in from the outside world. They’re rather distracting, are they not? Try to meditate. Tell me about it. They’re distracting. They pull your consciousness down to them, but that’s not where it stops. The saddest part is you become so and fixated is the right word.

You become so fixated on those thoughts, on those emotions, and on which comes in from the outside world, which is very little. We just talked about that at any given moment. It’s coming from your outside world is nothing is ridiculous. So basically how small is what comes in through your sense at any given moment compared to everything.

You know what I call it statistically insignificant. Yet, you end up defining yourself by what you saw. If I ask you, who are you? You say, well, I’m the one who played Dorothy in the fifth grade, and I the one who got married to George, and then George turned out to not be the very nice person. So I got married to somebody else and then this happened.

Then we had some children, but they don’t talk to me. And What are you doing? You are defining yourself by the experiences you had. What if you didn’t have that experience? Would you still exist? That’s so silly, right? But what happens? You have no choice because the fixation is so strong that you literally identify yourself as what you experienced, what you are experiencing, and what you’ve experienced, and so and so forth.

And then you build inside your mind. ’cause your mind stores this stuff. You build something called a self-concept. You said, this is who I am. I’m a woman. You are not a woman. You’re the conscious that’s aware of that. You’re aware that when you stand in front of here, stand in front of a mirror without clothes on.

And what do you see? You see physical traits that are man or a woman. Okay, snap. It changes right in front of your eyes. Bam. What would happen? Your mind would freak. Nothing changed. The consciousness is still in there experiencing what it’s experiencing, and so you start realizing what we’re doing is our awareness of being is drawn down into our thoughts, which we store.

From our experiences and drawn down to our emotions, which we store from our experiences, and then is drawn down into the world, which when we’re experiencing now, we can’t experience now. ’cause when it comes in, all of our thoughts and all of our emotions interpret what we think we’re seeing. I think she likes me.

I don’t know. She winked. No, no. She has something in her eyes. Alright. It comes in and we build what’s called an ego. My favorite topic, that’s what you built in there. What is an ego? It is a collection of thoughts in the mind. That’s where it is. It’s not out there in God. It’s not down here in the outside world.

It’s a collection of psyche, I call it psyche. The combination of thoughts and emotions, the psychological aspect of your being. It’s a collection of that stuff that you held onto and you define yourself as this, this is who I am. You will not talk to me like that. How dare you talk to me like that. I will not tolerate this.

There’s I, well, what do you mean? I thought you like to be talked to like that. Nobody likes to be talked like, and my sister did, and let’s have an argument. You have a pattern inside your mind, which you now identify with as me. I, I, I don’t have to tolerate that. Who’s this? I, it’s not the consciousness.

It’s. Expansive. It’s everywhere is it’s everything is seeing everything. It’s fixated. I get distracted by what I built inside my mind. I built inside my heart. And you built that. Do you understand that? No. No. I love her. I can’t live without her. How do you know? Well, when we met, I felt so much love. What do you feel now?

Well, not so much love.

Well, ready for this. I’m the person who used to love her. You just define yourself as the person that used to love her. Wow. What happened? Right. Well, she was mean to me this morning. What about this afternoon? She called and apologized. I love her again. I’m the person. I’m the person I, you’re identifying with these fleeting thoughts and emotions, and you identify with them.

You are more addicted to yourself than you are to any drug or any alcohol that could ever exist. Do you understand that? That’s why you do drugs and alcohol. ’cause you can’t handle being addicted to yourself.

So basically what happens is you built this thing in here based upon experiences you had, but not all of them. You don’t know how a lot, a lot of stuff going on there about white lines on the road are about clouds in the sky. Just the ones that bothered you either turned you on a lot or turns you off a lot.

You, I think I’ll store those. How are you gonna define yourself? I’m the person that I got divorced five years ago. I will never forgive him. That’s who I am. I’ll never forgive him. He hurt me so bad. Wow. So if it really bothers you, you kept it. You store and keep what really bothers you. If it really bother you, let it go.

Let it go. Why do you wanna hold on to the stuff from your five go to Freud? Does what mommy and daddy do when you were three and five affect your life? I say the foundation of my life. I never talk to my mother ever again. That’s what she did to me. Or I’m so close to my mother. We call every single day when we talk for an hour every single day.

So that basically we store certain things, not everything. At any given moment, you’re seeing thousands and thousands and tons of things. You don’t store all of those. The example I use, and you probably don’t like it, let’s say a 10 foot rattlesnake comes into the room, okay? Okay. That’s one object in a room, a 10 foot rattlesnake.

Then there’s all you guys, and the walls and the knots in the wall and the ceiling and the windows. When that snake is in the room, what are you paying attention to? Everything. Oh, I see. Alright. And when we finally get the snake out, do you ever think about it again? Do you have trouble going to the reptile exhibit in the zoos?

Do you have trouble taking walks in the woods knowing there’s rattlesnakes out there? Oh, one little experience and it ruined your life. Okay, well how do you know it ruined my life? What if came into this room and everyone saw it? Everyone was a beautiful angel of light with wings spread out, but just there for a few minutes.

But we all saw it. Everyone saw it. They described the, painted it the same, right? And then it went away. Right? Will you ever think about it again? Would you like to see it again? Do you crave to see it again? Are you disappointed? You can’t see it again? It left an impression. It was just an experience. The rattlesnake was an experience.

Came in a win. The angel was an experience. It came in a win. I can get in trouble. It’s called be here now. Yes, you had this experience, but now you’re not having that experience. Guess what? That’s not okay with me. Not the rattlesnake experience or the angel experience. That’s not okay with me. I don’t want to have the Rattlesnake experience again.

Therefore, I have it for the rest of my life. I told you guys, it doesn’t seem so smart. Why in the world are you holding onto what you don’t want, such as the divorce? Very few. You actually ever got divorced. All you think about is what they did, and I don’t remember. Oh no. That was like George, your normal mommy of George.

20 years later, you’re in a room in Europe at a party and your ex’s name is Ben from 12 years ago. And all of a sudden somebody calls out Ben. Ben, you get scared. Does your heartbeat increase? Okay, angel. Angel, does your heartbeat increase? Okay. You are stored this stuff inside where and inside your psyche, inside your heart and inside your mind, and you developed a concept of yourself.

I’m the one who saw the angel. I’m proud. I saw the angel. She’s my angel. I me mine ego. That means you’ve limited your consciousness to those thoughts, to those experiences. That’s not a very expanded consciousness considering you are the whole universe. So that is pretty fixated small, that you are the consciousness.

That’s what enlightened being will tell you. Alright? You are the consciousness of the whole universe. What did Christ say? My father and I are one. That is a literal statement. My consciousness is the divine consciousness of the entire universe. I just happen to spend a little minute looking down here.

Don’t worry, I won’t be here long. That is true of your consciousness right now. That’s what consciousness is. It is everywhere in everything at the same time. That’s what it is in your body. I want you to feel your left toe. Don’t move it, just feel it. I want you to feel your knee, feel your arm. I want you to feel your whole body at once, can you?

Of course you can. So your consciousness is everywhere. It’s in every cell, every single spot of that body. That’s God’s consciousness. It’s everywhere. It’s just didn’t limit itself to the toe or to the knee. It didn’t get fixated on something. It didn’t get caught in the tiny little object and start staring at it and saying, that’s me.

I’m this sad little person and nobody likes it, and I’m scared too, and I don’t know what’s gonna happen to me. That’s who you are. That’s what you did to God. Consciousness is stare at that junk. And the answer is yes. That is what you’re doing. So basically you come down and I, I have to find ego for you.

They once asked yoga on enlightened master. Master. What is the ego? He said, the masquerading self. What does that mean? It means you are the consciousness holding a mask in front of yourself and identifying with it. I am this person who has this problem, and this is what happened to me. Nobody ever had this bad as what I had.

Let me tell you right now, whoa. You’re holding this tiny little set of thoughts and emotions as a mask and saying, that’s who I am. The ego is the self holding a mask. What if you take down the mask? You’re enlightened. What if you’re wearing a costume, you take off a costume, then you’re who you are if you stop staring at your thoughts and stop staring at your emotions.

Now I’m gonna ask you a question. Are your thoughts and emotions important? How could they be important? You’re sitting on a tiny little planet, which I always tell you 1.3 billion earth fit inside the sun. And how big are you on the planet Earth. And how big were your experiences compared to the 8.3 billion people that are here right now?

And what about all the ones that ever were here? How big are your emotions? How important are they? There are nothing there. Do you like that? No. Oh, I am important. Not like that. You’re not, you are important. You’re very important. You’re the most important thing in the universe. But not while you’re staring at this little thing and making the big deal out of it, and you do make a big deal outta it, don’t you?

You can’t believe what he said to me yesterday. You’re telling your friend, you can’t believe what he said to me yesterday. And, and to your friend says, I can’t believe you can handle that. What’s this? A little tiny piece of dirt in the back. And by the way, that 1.3 million Earth inside the sun, you got that proportion right?

There are 300 billion stars in your galaxy, and your sun is one of ’em, and 1.3 million in your little tiny pieces of dirt of which you’re not even an ant fit inside Anybody getting the size and scope here? You wanna talk about God, let’s talk about God, 300 billion stars and your son is just like any other one, and there are trillions of galaxies, all with hundreds of billions of stars.

How important was what he said to you yesterday? Totally unimportant, but it distracted my consciousness so much that I got fixated on that one thought, and it will stay in my mind for days or years or the rest of my life. I’ll never forget what you said to me, and I will never forgive you for saying it.

You have caused so much pain inside. What? Who is that? What is that? That is ego. That is what happens when you take the outside world, not much of it, little tiny piece, and you start storing the parts that you liked and that you didn’t like, and you build a self-concept of yourself saying, this is what I like and you better not be that way.

What I don’t like. Alright, so now we have built what’s going on. I told you it’s gonna be tough, isn’t there? Is that not what’s going on? Did anybody not relate to anything I talked about? Is that not what you’re busy being? Okay? What’s the meaning of life? Maybe you got a clue. We gotta get outta this place.

If it’s the last thing we ever do, girl is a better life for me and you. There is a better life. Than living inside that ego, then limiting yourself to the garbage you collected over the course of this tiny little moment. You, I’m in a blink of an eye, this earth, of which there’s 1.3 million fin inside the sun has been here for 4.5 billion years.

How long will you be here, young lady? 80. 90, maybe a hundred. 4.5 billion. It’s nothing and you can’t handle it. Is it a true state? I’m gonna make a true statement right now. Each one of you, you can’t handle having dropped down under this tiny little planet, which happens in the nicest planet no one’s ever seen.

Okay? You know, there’s kangaroos and there’s fish, and there there’s birds, and there there’s things happening around here. It’s a happen in place. Can’t handle having them drop down here, having the experiences that are unfolding in front of you, all of which are very exciting and diversified and so on, right?

And then leaving. And where do you go? Where’d you come from? Well, you’ll find out. Don’t worry about it. Okay, now one of you can handle it. What’s going on? Why is this so crazy? And so the purpose of life is literally, there’s the statement I like I read back in the seventies, somebody once said. Earth is a place where souls are sent to evolve.

Earth is a place where souls are sent to evolve. Fifth grade math is a classroom that people are sent to learn arithmetic and in higher grades they’re sent classroom to to learn calculus. And somewhere else they learn medicine and somewhere else they learn. This earth is a place that souls are sent to evolve.

What does that mean? It means I’m gonna have experiences while I’m here. You sure? Are you sure you’re gonna have experiences? Anybody? Never had an experience? Okay, good. Okay, we got that. Down Earth is a place where I’m sent to have experiences. Why? So that you can wake up to everything we’ve been talking about right now to wake up.

You are not your ego, you are not your body. You are not your thoughts, any of them. You are not your emotions. You’re the consciousness that’s experiencing these things. You are God descended. But you fell from the garden, didn’t you? And what does it say in the Bible when you fall from the garden? Now you must work by the sweat of your brow to be okay.

Anybody know anything about that? And we’re working by the sweat of their brow every minute of every second of their life to try and have everything be the way they want and be okay. Alright. Okay, so now we take a breath. Have so little time left. Talk about the meaning of life. I got 10 minutes. Pay attention.

Okay. Alright. Now what’s gonna happen? You’re gonna drop down here. Got that check, things are gonna happen. Where? In front of you. Okay? That’s the only part you’re experiencing. Very good. Some of them are really pleasant. How do you know I ain’t stupid? I’m in here. They came in. Woo. It felt good. Some of them, well, some of what?

Some of the experiences that are unfolding in front of me, not my experiences, the experiences that are unfolding in front of me that happened, whether you’re there or not, it’s just every single place in the universe there’s something happening. Is that true? On Einstein’s entire time space continuum? At every point in time and space, something is happening.

Well, what’s happening? Where you were standing, where your consciousness was focused. You got to experience what was happening. That’s what’s happening. What’s happening is what’s happening. Wow. I went out to San Francisco to look at the bay because I heard it’s beautiful and I heard there was seals and whales and waves and surfing.

Oh my God. I wanna go there. Alright. And I go there. What is going to be happening when I’m standing there? You ready? What’s happening? Will there be seals? Who knows? Depends on what’s happening. Will there be whales? I don’t know. It depends on what’s happening. Will there be people surfing and getting inside of the funnels and doing?

I don’t. I I can’t. But why can’t you tell me? ’cause I didn’t create the universe. I didn’t make every moment in time and space we left that to God. Okay? It’s like things are happening, but what will I experience? You will experience what’s happening. Wow, you get that? That’s like so zen. That’s what it means when it says water’s blue.

Grass is green, flowers are red. Now go home. Contemplate things are what they are, but whoa, you have trouble with that. They’re not supposed to be what they are. They’re supposed to be the way I want them to be, aren’t they? It’s not supposed to rain on my birthday. Why would it rain on my birthday? ’cause it doesn’t know it’s your birthday.

The rain ain’t got nothing to do with this. Things are what they are because of what made them be that way. I just really wanna talk to you. Do you understand every single thing that’s happening has history, how much history? Oh my God, every moment that ever happened to it. Built why it is the way it is and it’s all coming together into this mishmash.

And you’re saying why? And you know what the answer is because

that’s why things are the way they are. You wanna know why it’s raining? Go study meteorology. You wanna know why you got sick? Go study medicine. It has history. There’s not a single thing in any of science that says there’s no reason. The purpose of science is to find the reason that things are the way they are and then work with them.

But you don’t accept that things are the way they are. You want them to be the way you want. Okay. Real quick, how did you come up with how you want? I know teacher, I made it up. I made it up. I just made it up. I made it up with my mind, and by the way, I can change my mind. It doesn’t take much time at all.

What’d you say to me? I, I never talked to you again. He said, you love me. I used to. And you made it up based on what? I made it up based on what I stored in my mind, based on my past experiences. Oh, I wish I had time. Do you understand how deep that statement is? Your preferences, your hopes, your dreams, your concerts, your views.

You didn’t make them up, you saw a movie. Yeah. Angel showed up. Change your life. Why? Because I didn’t let it go and then, then they start. How’d it change your life? You think it made you happy? No, I got so depressed for the rest of my life ’cause I could never see it again. I really wanted to see an angel again.

What did I do wrong? Yes or no? Could it do that to you? Could it do that to you? Okay, meaning of life. Let’s start here. It’s like a life manual thing. Well, before you come down, they forgot to give you that one. All right? And your prayer should have given you one. You’re going to come down to the planet Earth.

You’re going to be here inside of a body. Inside of a body, which is determined by genetics. So that basically you have a body and it’s gonna stay only for, I don’t know, who knows? It could be 10 years, it could be 30 years, 80 years, 90 years, whatever. But very, very short period of time. Sure. Compared to what?

4.5 billion years later been here. Alright. So you come down and guess what’s gonna happen? What will happen? God, what was that song? Whatever will be, will be the future’s not ours to see. Que that’s what will happen. What will happen is what will happen. Will I meet somebody? What will happen will happen.

Will we get married? What will happen will happen. Will we get divorced? What will happen will happen. It’s a happening place. You’re going to come down here and each moment there’ll be something unfolding in front of you. What if I miss it? You won’t miss that moment. You’ll miss everything else. Don’t worry about it.

You can’t experience everything so you stop staring at any one thing. You’ll experience everything. Well, we’ll discuss that. So you’re gonna experience the experience that you’re having. That doesn’t sound so bad. I’ll experience the experience I’m having. Are you willing to say that you experience the experience you’re having, but what if I don’t want to,

but what if I don’t want to experience the experience I’m having? Suffer. What if I can’t have the experience I wanna have? What if it’s not what? Whatever. Suffer, suffer, suffer. That’s what Buddha taught you. The cause of suffering is preference. The fact that you made up in your mind how you want it to be, you are going to suffer.

And if you make up in your mind how you don’t want it to be, you are going to suffer. Why? ’cause it’s gonna be the way it is when it’s all said and done. That moment is gonna be the way it is. You have to start with acceptance. You start with, okay. It’s raining, but what? It’s raining kid, can I accept the reality that’s unfolding in front of me?

We can move on from there, but the meaning of life is for you to learn that lesson. The meaning of life is for you to have experiences that teach you reality. But what is reality? That which is, that’s reality, is be here now. Experience the experience of the moment and then the next moment. Then the next moment.

But what if it’s not what I want it to be? Work on that work and make you be the, I want it to be no work on honoring and respecting it’s right to be what it is. Does it have to stay that way? Of course not. Nobody says you can’t affect the future, but it guess what? You can affect the past. Nobody has ever affected the past.

Nobody has ever affected the past. What happened happened, and you can’t even accept that. You can’t accept what happened, can you? You got all kinds of stuff stored in there that, and it reminds you of it. It gives you all kinds of trouble. You’re still bothered by it. Are you still bothered by your past?

Yes or no? Are you still waiting for something to happen before that you like to happen again? Well then. You’re in trouble. And the purpose of life is for you to have experiences that over time, mature. You teach you. Okay, start there. Okay, it happened. I can handle it. So you start with lesson one, things are going to happen.

Can you honor and respect the reality of the moment that unfolded in front of you? The answer is no. I guess I stored all the ones that I liked and didn’t like from before, and I’m judging the moments unfolding in front of me against that I like. Right. I don’t like her. She’s pretty, she’s not pretty. The thing I like what she said, I don’t like what she said based on what, when my mother said that to me once, and she was always sarcastic and I, I can’t handle sarcasm.

Congratulations. You stored the past and you can’t handle the present. It’s called judging. The Bible says, judge, not. These should not be judged. That’s very deep. There’s in patriarch the burdensome practice of judging. You’re in there judging based on what my self concepts. What else would it be based on?

Based on what I want and what I don’t want. Eventually you catch on life, teaches you. You’re not gonna get anywheres that way. He said what? He said, can you handle it? But there’s no buts. He said what? He said he could apologize. I was not gonna change it. You think I would change it and they wanna change it.

It changed your attitude toward it. But he said it, well, what do I do that he said it, accept it, but I didn’t like it. I’m so sorry that you didn’t like it because I can guarantee you didn’t like it. ’cause all your past experiences have built a self-conscience that said, I can’t handle that. Can you handle getting in a car accident?

Some people say, yeah, I’ve been in five of ’em before, and somebody else, oh no, I don’t go to car ever again. Based on what? Based on your past experience. It could be a movie you watch, a book you read, right? Am I right or wrong? You built concepts inside your head that don’t match reality. No concept inside your head.

Match reality. That’s what it’s called, a concept that would be called reality. You just make this stuff up and you get upset when it’s not happening and see basically, what is life teaching you? Wake up, wake up. I’m life. I win. Reality always wins, but I can’t handle it. Learn to. That’s what I’m here to do.

Learn to handle reality. Yes, you’re here to learn to handle reality, but what do I do if I handle it? You’re okay with it. Now what? Then deal with it. Nobody say, don’t deal with it, but don’t deal with it because you can’t deal with it. Maybe you sit there and say, I can’t deal with what you said. Well then don’t.

’cause you’re not the right person to be able to bring somebody else in to do it. You just admitted you’re the wrong person to be dealing with because you said, I can’t handle this. Do you see the meaning of life? The meaning of life for you to go through the experiences you went through and grow from them?

How’s that? But what if I didn’t like it? Grow? But we got divorced and it was really, really ugly. And I, I have all these problems and trouble inside my mind about it. Let it go. Why? Because it ain’t gonna change. If you wanna bother yourself about it, you’re gonna be bothered. He used to ask this question to you guys.

If you store inside of your heart and mind, everything that ever bothered you, what’s it gonna be like in there? Bothered. You can try to compensate for it, try to get something that makes you feel better about the fact that it bothered you. No. Is that good enough? You have to wake up and say, life is reality and I can deal with it.

How do you know? Because I’ve worked on myself. I used to suppress everything, push it away. I couldn’t deal with it. You used to repress things. I used to hate things. I used to judge things. Now I don’t. What do I do? I honor and respect reality and then do my best to deal with it, but I deal with it from reality, not from what I think.

Alright. The meaning of life is for you to have the experiences you’re having. Honor and respect the growth you go through. I’m gonna close this with something very special. The HARM museum, those of you living in Gainesville know there’s the University of Florida, has a HAR museum. They have a current exhibit, which you should go see.

It’s very beautiful and it’s impressionist work. Well that’s rare. There’s a traveling exhibit that has Monets and reir and very nice things. But there’s a piece there that I’m gonna talk about for a minute, and it’s not a Renoir. Or a Monet. Alright, it’s Rodan, which means it’s a sculpture. Okay. And it’s pretty big.

It’s sitting in the middle of the floor, and it’s a sculpture that Rodan made of a piece of marble, rough, rough marble. With this. Beautiful woman partway coming out of it. I, I’m talking about the level of of, of David carved, okay. It’s like everything’s, the toes are perfect and it’s just holding itself.

Hair is merged into the marbles. It’s like, oh my God. That has to be a rare piece. All right. And gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Alright. That’s who you are. And that is the meaning of life. He held that chisel and hit that marble. If it was conscious, it would say, ow. Ow. Stop it. What are you doing to me? Why do you not like me?

And then eventually you’ll look around, you’ll see a shoulder, David’s shoulder, beautiful coming out of the marble. That’s what you’ll see with this woman. And you say, oh, oh, that’s the meaning of life. That I get chiseled away the junk that I collected around myself so that I can be a beautiful being. Do you understand?

I, I’ll have to stop. You had a poem at the end of the poem. It’s a story of somebody running away from life. It’s called The Hound of Heaven. Running away from the experiences of life, running away from God, running away from all the darkness, running away the whole life. I ran the corridors of my life. I ran away, and at the end it says, I’m cornered.

I can’t run anymore. He’s got me. Then he says, oh, could it be that the darkness I ran from my entire life. With the shadow of your hand reaching down to pick me up, that is what’s going on. Every single experience you’re having is for your growth. It’s for you to chop away the non-reality you’ve built inside your mind and your heart so that you can be whole and merge yourself back into who you are.

Alright.
